Youth Empowerment Program
Do you know any out of school youth between the ages of 18-21? If so, YEP UCAN (Utilizing Communities & Neighborhoods) is the answer. This free program provides 38 weeks of intensive training focused on education, job training, mentoring, community service, personal development, and on the job training to help "high risk" youth overcome past barriers to success. A goal that this program hopes to accomplish is to have youths complete the GED program and obtain and maintain employment. As of March 14, the YEP UCAN initiatives began the Job Preparation/Community Service segment of this program. The goals of the programs are to provide educational services to "high risk" 18-21 out-of-school and/or adjudicated youth along with career preparation training that leads to their placement in meaningful unsubsidized employment. In keeping with grant guidelines, 10 program participants have been assigned to each of the three sites: Restoration Urban Ministries, Church of the Living God and Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. Each site has agreed to provide employability skill development as part of local workforce development stategies. The task of the participants range from helping with organization and cleanliness of community service sites to helping maintain quality facility operations or food service customer service.
