2005 Summer Youth Employment Program
The 2005 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) synopsis was held Saturday, May 21st at the Douglas Center Library.  This event was an occasion to introduce approximately 35 students slated to participate in the program and to advise and encourage them to be successful in this summer opportunity.

The SYEP is a collaboration between the City of Champaign, University of Illinois and the Urban League of Champaign County.  The goal of the program is to engage in-school youth, ages 16-18 years in a part-time summer career employment opportunity.

The even started with pizza and soda.  Representatives from the Urban League included:  Patricia Henry, Ray Coates and Titi Ayeni.  Others is attendance were Dense Gordon and Mable Thomas from the City of Champaign, Betsy Su from Champaign Public Library and Rene Thompson from the University of Illinois.

After a basic introduction and Q&A, participants listened to a motivational speech from Dr. Will Patterson, Professor of African-American Studies at the University of Illinois.

Any businesses wishing to hire summer youth, please contact Ray Coates at 217-363-3333 ext. 41
