URBAN LEAGUE HOSTS FUNDRAISER FOR LOCAL YOUTH

Champaign, IL – The Urban League of Champaign County will be hosting a fundraiser for Urbana High School Junior Mekiyale “Mookie” Brooks. Mekiyale was diagnosed with a Suprasellar Brain Tumor on July 1, 2006. Rapid health deterioration has resulted in Mekiyale being transferred from Carle Hospital in Urbana to the intensive care unit at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Tracy Parsons, President/CEO of the Urban League of Champaign County stated, “I grew up with Mekiyale’s dad, Kenny, and when I heard about Mekiyale, we were touched and felt obligated to help. We’re asking folks to come out and support the Brooks’ family, Wednesday night, July 19^th, 6p-9p, by coming out to Jackson’s on First Street, Champaign. We are suggesting a contribution of $10/person that will all go directly to Mekiyale’s fund established at Busey Bank.” Partnering with the Urban League of Champaign County is WBCP Radio and Jackson’s Ribs and Tips. 

Mekiyale’s family is in need of financial assistance to help with unexpected medical expenses, transportation and lodging cost associated with Mekiyale’s medical condition and hospitalization. The Mekiyale Brooks Fund has been established at Busey Bank where donations can be made and are greatly appreciated.
