Urban environments tend to get a bad rap whenever they are mentioned or spoken of in the news and even the word “urban” tends to carry with it some kind of mysterious and foreboding quality. Crime and pollution seem to go hand in hand with the general perception of the urban environment. It’s even gotten to a point where you might tell someone you’re looking into moving to the city and their immediate response is some kind of vaguely insulting quip like “Oh, man, be sure and get an ADT Home Security System on that apartment.”

The fact of the matter is that while urban environments have gotten a bad reputation it may not be entirely undeserved, there is a kernel of truth to many of the stereotypes, but that doesn’t mean it has to be this way. If you live in an urban environment and you’re looking to clean up the streets both literally and metaphorically than what you need to do is organize. Join a community clean-up program or look into ways you can organize one of your own. And try to raise awareness in your community regarding the state of the pollution. If everyone does their part, then your urban community could be well on its way to taking back the streets.

Waste products from manufacturing plants are the common sources of pollution nowadays. Factory pollution accounts for almost 50 percents of all water pollution. There are many manufacturing factories that consume high volumes of water to convey waste products to different areas. The waste water from these factories ends up into seas, oceans and lakes.

We have construction related factories which emit poisonous substances such as gypsum, cement, metals and poisonous solvents. All these substances are deposited in fresh water and are likely to affect life of aquatic animals.

Power plants also lead thermal pollution. They tend to increase the water temperature, which disrupts the level of oxygen in the water. This is likely to kill animals and animal species found in water.

Most of the manufacturing plants emit poisonous gases such as carbon monoxide. This is produced during combustion and is actually dangerous to human beings. There are also other factories that emit sulphur oxides that cause the acid rain. This occurs after the fuel that contains sulphur is burned. These sulphur oxides are commonly produced by those power plants that are driven through combustion.

The common waste products from factories that can cause water pollution include; asbestos, mercury, nitrates, caustic soda and many more. In order to control factory emissions and prevent pollution, the governments should take legal action to those manufacturing plants emitting poisonous substances.

Air pollution affects everyone’s health. The air quality especially during the summer can affect the lungs, heart, blood vessels, and even the human brain. There are new studies showing that pollution may be linked to heart failure, stroke, irregular heartbeats, cardiac arrest, and many vascular diseases. We know that air pollution in the short term has caused upper respiratory infections for example bronchitis or even pneumonia in the elderly. However children, people with low immune systems, elderly, pregnant women, or people that have other breathing problems the poor air can lead to more serious illnesses. The pollution triggers asthmatic attacks or allergy attacks in many of us. The poor air quality that is found during the summer months in larger cities throughout the world broadcast on the news what the air quality for the day as being moderate to high as ozone pollution or smog. This usually leads to red eyes, coughing, sore throat or nose in the general public Most of the fine particulate matter or tiny bits of soot that come from burning coal, oil, diesel fuel, or wood which comes from the factories, power plants, and all vehicles are breathed in by us. Pollution affects overall health.

Pollution is a devastating problem to our environment and is avoidable in many ways. There are many things that we can do right away to help reduce the amount of pollution in our environment, and here are just a few of them:

The first thing we can do is to stop littering. The types of products that we are littering on a daily basis is detrimental to our environment. This is a significant source of pollution and we can eliminate this source by simply disposing of our trash properly and not being lazy.

Another thing we can do is to recycle. Recycling never gets old, and is a great way to preserve natural resources. Not only does recycling preserve what we already have, recycling helps avoid filling up our landfills which can lead to environmental pollution. We also need to be resourceful and re-use things when we can such as plastic bags, etc.

Driving less can help reduce our air pollution. Cars emit harmful chemicals and other pollutants into the air on a daily basis as we drive. Planning our trips wisely to save on the amount of traveling and gas that we use can help reduce our air pollution.

Have you had allergies to creep up on you for no apparent reason? Think your home is clean and sanitized but you feel sickly or you start to sneeze? Asking yourself can air pollution creep into your home, most definitely and it can possibly be the most dangerous pollution around. When it gets cold out of course we think to weatherize our homes – keep warm and keep the heat in but with the heat in and the possible dust build up isn’t a pretty picture when constantly inhaled. Even though you may have the cleanest home on the block a home can still carry mold and pollen that has seeped in and then think of the cleaning products you have used to clean your home – those are pollutants as well. Open a window, wash those things you’ve had stored up and now have pulled out to use. Remember dust mites are real and when having you sneezing and itching and wheezing your head off. As the old saying goes in a nice way CYB well in this case you should CAW which is to clean, air out, and wash away. Keep this simple rule of thumb and you will be off to a great start of getting rid of the air pollution that crept in your home.
